Google Home is Google's connected-home platform: it is used through the Google Home app, on Android 9 or later and iOS 17 or later, with a Google Account — devices cannot be set up from a computer. It connects devices carrying the «Works with Google Home» badge and Matter-compatible ones; Matter needs a Google hub in the home, such as a Nest Hub (2nd gen) or a Nest Mini. With the hub, commands to Matter devices travel over the home network instead of the cloud. The app works without a subscription; the paid Google Home Premium adds camera video history and Gemini-based features.

Since July 2025 Google Home has recognised robot vacuums with Matter 1.2 and 1.3. In automations the robot can be a condition («if the vacuum is docked…») and receive pause, resume and return-to-dock commands. Automations run partly locally and partly on Google's servers, depending on the devices involved.
