SmartThings is Samsung's connected-home platform, run by SmartThings Inc., a subsidiary of the group. It is used through the SmartThings app, on Android and iOS, with a Samsung account; the app is downloaded and used without a subscription. Matter, Thread and Zigbee devices need a hub, which can be built into a Samsung appliance — TVs from the Q60 series released after 2022, for example — or a standalone hub.

Automations are called routines and run on the hub when every device involved allows it; if even one goes through the cloud, the routine runs on SmartThings' servers. Among the Matter device types the platform recognises is the robot vacuum: a Matter robot from another brand can sit in the app next to Samsung's Jet Bots. For anyone who wants to write an integration, the API is documented and used with a personal token.
