R1 is a compact bipedal humanoid robot, which Unitree presents as an open platform for people developing control algorithms: the joint and sensor interfaces are open and compatible with the main simulation environments, so code moves from the simulator to the robot. It stands 123 cm tall and has 26 degrees of freedom, the points where the body bends or rotates.
It has a binocular camera and four microphones, plus a model that processes voice and images together to talk with whoever is using it. The battery lasts about an hour per charge. Custom software development is reserved for the EDU variant, which is requested from the sales department.
It is bought from the manufacturer's online shop. For anyone in Europe it is an import: shipping comes from China, and duties and customs clearance are the buyer's responsibility. Unitree does not list European distributors.
